Push notification (Mobile app)

SecureAuth Connect push notification authentication sends a sign-in approval request to the user's paired mobile device through the SecureAuth Authenticate app. The user approves or denies the request with a single tap, without entering a code.

Use cases

Push notification fits when you want a fast, low-friction mobile factor.

  • Frequent sign-ins: Users approve with one tap instead of reading and typing a code. This is the fastest of the mobile authentication methods.
  • Workforce and B2B: Employees on managed devices get a familiar approve/deny prompt similar to other enterprise push MFA tools.
  • Complement to passwords: Use push as a second factor after password sign-in to add possession-based verification with minimal friction.

Push notification is not the best fit when users are in environments where push delivery is unreliable (poor connectivity, restricted notification settings), or when you need protection against real-time phishing relay attacks (consider Symbol instead).

How push notification works

  1. The user enters their identifier on the sign-in page and selects Push.
  2. SecureAuth Connect sends a push notification to the user's paired mobile device.
  3. The user taps Approve (or Deny) on the notification in the SecureAuth Authenticate app.
  4. If approved, authentication completes and the user is signed in.

Prerequisites

  • The user must install and pair the SecureAuth Authenticate app. See Pair your mobile device.
  • An administrator must enable Push at the workspace level.
