Box SAML integration

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an extra layer of security used when logging into websites or apps. Individuals are authenticated through more than one required security and validation procedure that only they know or have access to.

Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) is a protocol for authenticating to web applications. SAML allows federated apps and organizations to communicate and trust one another’s users.

Arculix by SecureAuth offers a simple method for adding single sign-on (SSO) MFA to Box through its SAML solution.

Box configuration

In this section, you'll configure Box as a service provider (SP).

  1. Download the SAML metadata and certificate for your organization from Arculix.

    Metadata download:<myorganization>/saml/download/metadata

    View metadata:<myorganization>/saml/metadata

    Certificate download:<myorganization>/saml/download/cert

  2. Log in to Box with an administrator account and go to Admin Console.

  3. Go to Enterprise Settings > User Settings.

  4. In the Configure Single Sign on (SSO) for All Users section, click the Learn more about setting up SSO here link.

  5. A new window appears. Do the following:

    1. In the What you need from Box to set up your connection section, copy and save the Box information for Arculix configuration.

    2. In the Setting Up SSO on your own section, click the Box SSO setup support form link and set the following:

      Your email address

Enter the email address you use to communicate with Box.

      Who is your Identity Provider?

      Set to Other With Metadata.

      Box Subdomain

Enter your Box subdomain. For example,

What is the attribute for the user's email?

      Enter “SAML_SUBJECT” “mail”

What is the attribute for groups?

      Enter “memberOf”

What is the attribute for the user's first name?

      Enter “given_name” “givenName”

What is the attribute for the user's last name?

      Enter “sn” “surName”

Upload the metadata file that you downloaded earlier from Arculix.

    3. Click Submit.

The Box support team handles your request, which may take up to 24 hours.

Upon completion, Box sends a notification to the provided email address and the Arculix certificate appears in the Configure Single Sign On (SSO) for All Users section.

  6. To enable SSO, go to Enable Single Sign On (SSO) for All Users in the User Settings > Step 2: Complete SSO activation and slide the SSO Required toggle On.
